ParaGuard?!

Question

I'm currently on the Depo Shot, but I'm thinking about switching to something without hormones. The shot has just messed with my moods..& almost costed me my relationship. I've heard good things about the ParaGaurd IUD, but everything I've read people say they almost passed out from insertion. I just need some input on how you guys have reacted to it, and if the pain is really that bad.

There have been issues with iuds causing PID & this specific one corroding but other than that i havent heard anything bad

I went into my most recent appointment not knowing if I was going to get the paraguard, I left with one. 
   Luckily my doctor is nice and numbed my cervix before inserting it, for me the most painful part was the speculum. It's been 2 days since I got it and I'm still a little bit crampy, nothing a couple of Tylenol doesn't fix though.

Here is some truth for you...

I got ParaGuard inserted about 36 hours ago and didn't take any meds before. They told me to at my previous apt but I forgot to yesterday morning and then I was about to go undress right before and they asked if I did, and I was like, 😦 uhh yeah...I did. 😶

Take the meds!!

I have never had kids so my cervix is tight and doesn't like to be messed with. And it was terrible, like I seriously thought I was gonna lose it!!! And I like to think I have a pretty high pain tolerance... I was using every breathing pattern I could think of, and grabbing the table and squeezing my toes...
But it only lasted about 10 (sweaty, groaning, terrible) minutes and my Doc warned me when it was going to be the worst and my insertion was a little abnormal because my opening was so tight, but now I am good for 10 years!

I think if you take 800 mgs of ibuprofen beforehand, and just ask your doc to let you knew when it will be bad and when the worst is over, you'll be fine.

Since I just got it in, I have had cramps, so have held off on exercising for a few days and have taken some meds every 4 hours for cramps but I think I am finally ready to go pill free tonight!

Overall, a few minutes or pain for 10 years of worry free, condom free sex with my husband? Worth it!

I have the Paragaurd and the insertion was not that bad for me. I took 800mg of ibuprofen an hour and a half before the visit. I knew that it wasn't going to feel good but relaxing helped.

Have you had children? And what are your periods like? I haven't had kids and have really light painless periods. When I had the paraguard I had the worst periods of my life. I had too call in to work, use tampons and pads, and ibuprofen and midol didn't help at all. I kept it for a year and it never improved so I had it taken out. I now use a diaphragm called Caya. It's really popular in Europe. In other countries you don't even need a prescription for it. You use it with spermicide and just put it in before you have sex. Super easy. You take it out 6 hours after you've had sex. I've used it for a year and a half now and haven't had any pregnancy scares.
