How old was your baby when you started feeding your baby cereal or baby food? Did you start cereal in the bottle or did you use a spoon?

Answer

Generally the rule is 6 months. But some people start earlier. They should sit upright unassisted. They should start to reach for foods on their own when they see them. They should have a "pincer" grip with their forefinger and thumb. They should no longer have the "tongue thrust" reflex where they stick their tongue out of their mouth when they have something put in.

A lot of people ignore these things and start earlier, which is up to you as the parent. Please, however, research "open gut" or "virgin gut" in babies. You can Google it. It basically explains that babies can develop a lot of allergies/ food intolerance among other things if you feed them food too soon.

Feeding them cereal from a bottle is a choking hazard so it should always be done off of a spoon, but there are a few milestones baby should be meeting before starting. You can usually find them online. 🙂
