What to expect at iui for both partners?

We were not religiously comfortable with in-office collection for my partner so the office gave us at "at-home collection kit" and sterile condom. Ask about this if it is important to you! They don't usually volunteer the information. Basically for him it is like the SA process and for you it is like a pap smear. They had some trouble w the catheter insertion for me (to transfer the sample) so if that happens it might take longer or be not uncomfortable but you will do great! Have hubby try to make it to your appt too!

My experience was they had me do the trigger shot the day before. The day of, my husband had to collect his sperm. They "wash it" getting it ready for injection. The rest feels like a pelvic exam. They use a speculum and then insert a long, small tube to put the sperm in. They lifted the table so I laid with my pelvis elevated for 15-20 minutes. Then, I was on my way.

I had monitoring through my whole cycle. Once you actually get to IUI day, your partner will go in and give his sample, they wash it and you'll go in about an hour later (he can come too). They insert the speculum, thread a catheter up into your uterus and push the washed sperm up into you. You'll cramp slightly through this. You can then relax there for 5-10 minutes, get dressed and go. You may spot or cramp through the day, but nothing terrible. I did a back to back IUI and did this twice in 24 hours. The whole thing was 15 minutes from start to finish.
