plans for child care?

My husband and I are feeling a bit stressed thinking about child care expenses. I'm a nurse and work three 12-hr shifts and he works M-F 9-6. It would almost make more sense for me to work part time and work the days my husband is off than to work full time and have to pay child care (most places are all or nothing even though we would only need once or twice a week). I would hate to never be able to see my hubby... We just bought a house before we found out we're pregnant so we're anticipating some hefty closing costs. I won't qualify for FMLA because I decided to start a new job two months before we conceived so I'll get just six weeks at home with my baby, no pay. Timing just isn't great and I know it will work itself out but I'm feeling really overwhelmed at the thought of sending my six week old to day care. What are your child care plans? Any tricks or advice you can pass along?
