Genetic testing?

Had my first ultrasound this week and baby measured right on point! 9 weeks exactly and HR is 175. I'm now 9w2d and doc told me that hubby and I have to decide whether to have genetic testing or not within a week so we can schedule it. What's everyone's opinions/plans? 
We have had a couple friends who have had babies with missed genetic abnormalities that would have been caught if they did the test. I also know that the point is kind of to see if you would terminate the pregnancy if baby would not survive long after birth. Awful to think about, but unfortunately a reality of being pregnant. Please do not turn this into a pro-life/choice debate! Just looking for input. Thank you!

I was diagnosed with a chromosomal abnormality during my last pregnancy after many MC while TTC her. We did do genetic testing with her. We thought about doing it again, but have decided against it. Our soul definition of being a parent is never giving up and for our children to always know how loved they are. We don't feel like even with a genetic abnormality we would be able to terminate. No tests are 100% so we would both have that 'what if it was wrong' in our head. So even if there is something wrong with the babe, we will hold and love this him/her till their heart stops. We've had many long and VERY emotional conversations about this, but we feel like it's the right decision for our family. I think the best question to ask yourself is 'would I be able to terminate if something was wrong?' If your answer is no, then why risk an invasive test? If your answer is yes, and you'd never get any judgement from me if it was, then remind yourself that knowledge is power. Being a parent is hard work and starts long before these babies are born.

My genetic testing isn't an additional cost, so we are doing it to be prepared.

I got it done with my last one and I'm so happy I did cause I miscarried it and I'm glad to know that the chromosomes and all were fine. It was more a peace of mind. Plus I got to find out what I was having cause they have it as a gender test also if you request it. But I'm pregnant again 9 weeks today will be having mine done next week and will be having the gender done also. I highly recommend it

I am doing genetic testing not for abortion purposes, but just so we are prepared for whatever may come.

I'm doing the noninvasive testing. I don't want to take the risk with invasive one but I think it's important to have done. Just remember the test tells you the RISK of your baby having chromosomal abnormalities not that it actually does.

I don't think it's a bad thing I think it's a good thing and doesn't necessarily mean termination ... we will be testing at 9 weeks when we go for our first appt with the obgyn as long as we graduate from the re on Monday (8 week scan) ... were doing it so if there is an abnormality we will be prepared for the future

We chose against it. We wouldn't want to terminate regardless and the doctor reassured me that they do a lot of checks during ultrasounds. I know it's not always the issue but neither my husband nor myself have had any family history of disorders and we are both young enough to not be in the age range it's recommended for. We just don't think it's worth the money. The ones offered are about $1,000 and we'd rather save the money in case our baby is born with with an issue and needs support and other expenses. It's a very personal decision though and we talked extensively about it. Good luck!

I'm choosing not to do it. Ive known someone that got a false positive and I wouldn't choose to terminate my pregnancy either way. My doctor told me it's not 100%, it just lets us know if we have a higher percent of it happening

We are choosing not to do any screenings and honestly we always thought we would do them! Our logic is 1) we would not terminate the pregnancy anyways and 2) some of those screenings have a decent chance of giving a false positive. We decided we are going to have faith that we will have a healthy, happy baby. I get pretty bad anxiety and the stress of hearing our baby could have something wrong wouldn't be good for the baby. Mommy stresses=baby stresses.
