I'm having an argument with a guy friend who thinks that some women like to be catcalled; is he right??

Catcalling is gross. Most women hate it, or feel unsafe. Harassment is not fun to deal with.

Here's what I think: If a woman enjoys being catcalled - even if it's just a less threatening/sexualizing words like "hi beautiful"- that woman prob doesn't understand the underlying message and/or the social structure that make catcalls possible..

No, not at all. I hate it. I hate men lol I'm just kidding but some have made me feel uncomfortable. I was walking around in the grocery store as normal people do and a man said something inappropriate to me and it's just so gross. The greatest thing though is when I say I'm 14 and their facial expressions change from a sick and cocky smirk to genuine fear. I live in a conservative area where people don't care if they say something gross to you. I've has multiple men comment on how I'll make my future husband very happy and I'm just like ???? I'm gay??? I'm not but it's always funny to see their reaction. I don't know what else to say ever.

The reason men don't understand why we hate it, is because they are privileged enough to never know what it feels like to feel unsafe just walking down the street. We get following and harassed and fear our lives or fear getting raped. That's where our heads go. It's also pretty dehumanizing.
