induction did not work

I'm 40W3D. Never had any signs of labor, no contractions, no loss of mucus plug, not dilated and only 50% softened. So my doctor brought me in for an induction. She gave me cervadil to soften my cervix which stayed in for about 8 hours, no change happened. Then she gave me Pitocen and let it drip for about 12 hours, I never dilated, my contractions were never painful or consistent so she sent me home and is bringing me back in a week. Has this happened to anybody? What was the outcome? Isn't it a waste to have me come in a week later to try the same thing that didn't work the first time? I wouldn't mind a C section. I'm so anxious something bad is gonna happen
