Milk supply - something weird happened

So, my milk came in on day 4, but not much. I was able to pump about half of what my baby needed and supplemented the rest. I pumped religiously and couldn't up my supply no matter what. Then around day 11 I had a HUGE bleed with clots, soaked through 2 overnight pads in 10 minutes, and then it slowed down. About 2 days later I was producing way more milk than my baby needed and now he just nurses til he's satisfied and I pump the excess. The lactation consultant said there might have been a piece of placenta left inside me that needed to come out and it could have been holding up my milk. Anyone have a similar experience or hear of something like this?
