High school relationships into different college.. do they last?

my boyfriend and i had been dating a year (nearly 2) when i graduated high school and went off to college. he stayed local while i went away. it was hard, i'm not going to lie. but what ultimately kept the relationship alive was trust and effort. without both, i'm sure the relationship would have crumbled a month into the semester. this sometimes meant staying in, or visiting home on the weekends... and sometimes it meant going out with my roommates and having to hope he trusted me (he did).

having a long distance relationship does not mean that you necessarily HAVE to forfeit the quintessential "college experience", but it does mean that sometimes you will have to step back and consider someone other than yourself... which is fine. if you don't leave your room, you're never going to lay fourth the foundation for trust in your relationship. my boyfriend and i have since been together 4 years and i accredit majority of our success and happiness to the 2 years we were apart at separate universities. without those years, we would never had learned to trust each other as faithfully as we do, nor would we have gained the appreciation we have for each other.

i'm not saying every couple can survive a LDR, but if you truly love them and you're willing to put fourth the hard work and trust to make it work, THEN GO FOR IT. i promise, your relationship will be all the. better because of it.🌸💫

I know two relationships that did survive and are still going strong! And so many more than didn't (and one that ended very badly). So yes some do but most don't. You change a lot in your first year and you and you're partner often just grow apart or it's an LDR and that is just too much for some people. But they can last and thrive in university.

It did for me. It's been 5 years since we graduated high school and went on to college/uni and we're still together. It's definitely not that easy, especially if you've moved away, but if you are serious about it then it'll work out.

I dont really know many people who stay together, so i wouldnt bank on it, but dont jeopardize your relationship over something thats not an actual issue. Just let whatever may or may not happen naturally and accept that your lives could go either way

Every relationship is different, that is for sure. But it works for me and my SO! But it's not a 'one size fits all' kinda deal. The best way to find out is to try it out.
