What cycle day and how many times a day did you test? Am/Pm? 
My doctor took my off clomid and now I'm starting femara... just hoping I ovulate this time.

I start at CD7 and keep testing till CD25 at least, I'm on Clomid and it has given me false positives days before actually O that's why i continue to test throughout my cycle and i recommend anyone taking fertility meds to do the same :)

I do the clear blue easy advanced opk.   You test in the morning with that one per the instructions.  I usually started  day 11 or 12.  With a peak on day 16 to 18, usually.  I decided to test until day 22.  This was on clomid.  There was only twice I didn't hit peak at all.
