Hoping for Pregnancy

Hello ladies! My husband and I are trying to have a baby. I've been off of birth control (oral pill) since January 20th. I just got my period yesterday and all pregnancy tests have been negative. Why am I not getting pregnant? What am I doing wrong? How long after beginning to try, did it take you guys to become pregnant?
