Speech therapy???!

Question

My mom thinks i talk reaaaalllyyyy fast but i dont think i do, and my friends say i only talk fast when im excited. And my mom wants me to go to speech therapy BUT I REALLLYY DONT WANT TOO! Like i dont see anything wrong with me so i dont see a point in going. And like we dont have the money for it anyways. I really dont want to go. What do you guys think?

If your mom thinks that you might have a problem, then you need to respect that and her.  The first thing that they are going to do is an assessment.  They're professionals.  Just see what they have to say.  Frankly, it would be just plain stupid not to go in for an assessment.  And therapy if you need it.  Being able to communicate effectively through speech is really important.  Why would you willingly want to shortchange yourself in that area?  Lots of people have had speech problems and those problems were easily remedied through speech therapy.  It's not something to be afraid of.

Speech therapy is expensive. If someone is willing to pay to help me articulate better I would 100% go. It will only benefit you - in school, at work, with friends.

Speech therapy is often for people whom have difficulty speaking. That's usually not a issue fast speakers have.

On your first visit they would do an assessment of your speech capabilities and determine whether you have an impediment or not. It's the only way for them to know how to begin therapy. If they don't see a problem, you won't have to keep going. Go to the first appointment. See what a professional says.
