Started pumping Friday after birth. A couple days ago woke up and boobs were really hard and swollen. But since then everytime I pump nothing comes out. Baby is NICU. All I can do is pump for her. What is wrong? Please help!!

First, see a lactation consultant pronto!  An international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC)!  There should be one at your hospital to consult.  Second, looks like you might have a milk blister blocking the flow.  You should be able to gently remove it with your nail, or soften it with a warm washcloth, then remove.  Look up all things breastfeeding on the credible website, Kelly mom.com. Finally, warm shower, warm compresses, massage breasts in a downward motion from the wide part to the nipple while pumping.

If baby is still in NICU ask to see one of their lactation consultants. They will typically come in when you're visiting babe and can help with issues you're experiencing. Good luck!

If your whole breast is hard you are likely engorged. My lactation consultant said to ice first because it reduces the swelling (the swelling will stop milk flow). Once the swelling is reduced use heat to help with let down and hand express as much as possible then pump.

Overall hard? Or lumpy/knotted spots? Overall hard seems to be engorgment that just needs some assistance...hot shower, etc. Lumps or knots are likely clogged ducts. I exclusively pump and get lumps between every. single. pumping session. It's horrible and they're painful. Maybe your nipples are injured from too high of a pump setting? Not sure, just throwing out ideas.

Hot shower and massage . You may have gone too long without pumping.  They get engorged and super painful.  In the shower see if you can manually express a little milk ...

When I couldn't pump I just told them give her formula until my milk come in or until I can pump. So my baby could still eat and won't be hungry and she likes both. And also try a hot shower orrrr put a hot towel on your boobies it's heaven ☺

Talk to your ob sometimes they can give you something to help with milk production and before you pump try a hot shower to help with let down
