How reliant are you/your family on getting your fruits, veggies, and meat from the store?

Just curious as to how many people grow their own garden,  can and freeze what they've grown,  butcher their own animals,  or hunt.

I live at 9,000 ft elevation. It's nearly impossible to have a reliable garden here. Wish we could have a garden.

75/25: 25 is small garden- herbs, some veggies.  We also get eggs and game meat (venison) from extended family and friends, and we split the butchering of a cow with a coworker.  My mom loves to scallop and fish, but hubby is deathly allergic, so that's a no-go.

Most of the meat comes from what's raised or hunted. We've had gardens, but now that I'm traveling more it's hard to maintain obviously. Unfortunately when I'm in new states it takes time to figure out where to find farmers markets or local sellers, so the grocery store whens out. When we're home it's not such a hard task. So I wouldn't say 50/50...

i live on the beach and our yard is sand so a garden isn't really an option. but once i have my own house that's the goal

During the summer I buy a lot of produce at local produce stands since I live in the middle of farm country. I don't have enough patience or time to have my own vegetable garden.

We are trying to become 100% reliant on ourselves.  I think it is very important that our children know where there food comes from.  They are learning to garden and when they become of age they will get the opportunity to learn to hunt.  We also can and freeze a bunch of veggies and fruits.  Most fruits we have to buy at the store or from a market.
