Is it normal to let someone push for three hours then make her stop and have her go to sleep for an hour while the baby is crowning?
My best friend has been in labor for nearly 24 hours and after pushing for three, almost four hours, they're making her stop even with the baby crowning and having her go to sleep.

Seems unnatural.

You can't push properly if your body is tired. This is a common occurrence. Birth is marathon not a sprint :) her and baby needed a break for in sure the dictum knows what they are doing. They do constant monitoring for a reason.

A pause at crowning is to allow natural stretching and try to minimize tearing (I.e. better recovery for mom). The baby is monitored for any distress or heart rate problems the whole time.

Leaving baby in the birth canal too long is dangerous. They need to get baby out or do a c-section.

In the end they pulled the baby out with forceps and dislocated it's shoulder. She was 10 pounds 5 ounces, my friend has a third degree tear. They really just should've done a c section.
