How much does ingrown toenail removal cost? (TMI pic) 😣

So about 3 weeks ago the corner of my nail got chipped half way so I peeled it off without knowing the consequences. It started to hurt so I noticed puss coming out a few days later. I made an appt with a regular doctor and she only prescribed me antibiotics, I kept insisting for her to refer me out to a Podiatrist because I knew that I had an ingrown nail.  She seemed to be rude and ignored me and said I should be fine with the antiobiotics. WRONG! It cleared up some and I'm no longer in pain I've been applying hydro peroxide and alcohol (maybe that's why it's drying out so badly) but I need to get to the root of the problem before it gets worse. How much is a ingrown toenail removal? And would medicaid cover it?

Medicaid should cover it... if not, it would probably be under $1000. Depending on how bad it is. That is a guess, I actually have no idea; but I just don't see how they could charge more than that. It's a really simple procedure, doesn't require much time or resources to do.

You can call up the podiatrist, and first ask if they take Medicaid... and if they don't, how much would it cost? They can give you a pretty good estimate.

Honestly, you'll lose your toe if you don't go. I almost lost mine from letting it go so long. After this, don't clip your toes without them actually showing you how it needs to be done. Because I let mine go so long, I lost a piece of my toe  and when it grew back, it grew back abnormally and covers the corner of my toe nail. I haven't had a severe ingrown toe nail since then that was 5 years ago.

Insurance should cover it. I don't remember how much it cost but I had the same thing (for years). The pediatrist numbed me up and removed it on my first appt. It healed in a week or two. The nail shard deep in there was about to pop thru the front of my toe. Call an office and ask if they take Medicare, or call medicare directly. You will feel so much better.

Medicaid coverage varies by state, but really it should be covered as a standard office visit. You don't need surgery, a primary care doc can cu it in-office.  My husband has had it happen twice (different toes, he finally got new shoes..). No big deal.
