Help with changes in hormones?

Whitney

When I first got put in birth control, I started with the Depo and after a year I got the Nexplanon. From the time I got the Depo until six months after I got the Nexplanon (18 months), I didn't have a period, which isn't uncommon. Then, in October of 2016, I started having sporadic, unpredictable and heavy periods that were also extremely painful. My doctor said at that time it was probably because of stress and some changes in my medication.

Recently, I had a seven day bleeding period, seven day break, and then seven more days of bleeding. I saw my doctor again today and she decided to put my on a birth control pills along with my Nexplanon. She believed that my uterine lining has built up so much that my body doesn't know what to do. With the two hormones combined, her idea is that my body will clean itself out and hopefully either go back to how it was with no periods at all or a regular menstrual cycle. She also said that these next few months while I do this are probably going to be extremely painful while I pass the clots.

Has anyone else ever had an experience like this? Any tips or tricks to deal with this to go about daily life? I also have chronic migraines and I don't want this to make them worse and effect my function more than my migraines already do. Any tips or ideas would be helpful.
