Are Baby Showers Supposed to be a Secret?

Everyone I've spoken to seems shocked that I know about my baby shower and that it's not a surprise. I didn't realize it was so common to have surprise baby showers.  I personally like knowing because that gave me time to shop for a dress and I formed a lot of my to do list time line around the babyshower date.  Are baby showers supposed to be a secret from the mother to be?

My friends threw me a surprise shower and I showed up 30 minutes after a nap, in jeans, no makeup and a messy bun because my fiance said we were going furniture shopping. It was sweet and wonderful but don't think there's anything wrong with knowing about your shower!

Mine isn't. I'm helping plan it, because I want things to be a certain way, and not the way my MIL and SIL would do it if given free range.

No but most women are just given a date and that's it. That's what I did to my sister. She knew she needed to be dressed nice but comfy and be ready to leave her house at 2 and that was it.

I'm pretty insistent to at least know the date. I hate full on surprises and need to prepare myself for these type of events. Plus I have a ton of stuff going on around the shower time and can't possibly keep an open schedule.

I knew I was having one, but had no idea when or where. I was suspicious every time I left the house. Lol. I am having another shower, kind of against my wishes (because we never expected to have one for another child, but we had a house fire and family and friends are being insistent about throwing one for us) and this time around I will know when and where it is. And that is only because I asked and explained that I was super stressed out not know when the first shower was and made my anxiety go crazy.

I've never heard of a surprise baby shower. I wouldn't have gotten a registry ready or made time to look nice if I didn't know what was going on. That would be super stressful lol

My mom wanted to organize for me since I live abroad and she was visiting. She didn't know any of my friends here so I had to help with the list.
