Depo Shot opinions?

I have been on the pill for 3 months now for my period. I have a VERY heavy blood flow and my cramps are horrible, like to where in on the floor crying. So my doctor talked to my mom about putting me on birth control to regulate my flow and help with the cramps. Im 17 and i have a boyfriend and yes i am sexually active. We use a condom on top of the birth control for more saftey. My doctor told me to use the birth control for 3 months because thats how long it will take for my body to get used to the extra hormones and everything will start to kick in and MAYBE i can try the depo shot so i dont have my period at all. Ive looked at reviews on line and i have NOT seen anything good about it... has anyone on glow ever had or expierienced the depo shot before???

I'm currently on Depo Provera. I haven't had any negative side effects on this. My skin cleared up, I only gained 5 pounds; it helps curve my addiction to cigarettes (still trying to quit), and my fiancé and I don't worry about pregnancy scares. We don't use condoms anymore and he does finish inside of me. Not a single worry in the world over it. I also don't have a period. I'm 19. I had a miscarriage before I started the shot. It's actually the reason why I started it. But I have nothing but positive things to say about it. Everyone is different, so keep that in mind. Not everyone has had good experiences with it, but not everyone has had bad ones either.

I was on the depo shot for almost a year (got the shot every 3 months) then one day I came up pregnant (~10 years ago). Also, it never stopped my period but made my cramps less painful. ( my cramps get so bad I normally black out once a month)

I can't speak for the shot but I have the Skyla IUD (the hormonal one) and it's fantastic, id recommend looking into that one too

I was on the depo for a little over two years. Never had my period but gained a lot of weight which is a huge side effect with this! Also doctors recommend not being on it for too long.. now I'm on the nexplanon and I hate it even more! Bleh.

I had a negative experience with depo too. I was bleeding constantly, every day. I had to switch to the pill to get the bleeding to stop and I never went back to the shot.

I had a great experience with depo! No periods for almost 4 years, none of the mood swings that I had with other BCs, no weight gain, and minimal skin issues. I only went off of it because I got my tubes tied.

I was on depo and had the most horrible side effects. I had a three month long period, lost all sex drive, was either sad or angry (never happy), and I was painfully hungry all the time, like I hadn't eaten in days, even though I had just ate an hour ago.

The Depo can still give you your period but if you use it for more than 6 months to a year then it might eliminate it
