Any teachers in here?

Question

When and how are you planning to tell your principal/district and coworkers? Would especially love to hear from moms who have already had this experience! As a first year teacher I am nervous for this conversation.

I'm a fifth year teacher but first year at this school. I'm telling my grade level and admin after my first doctors appt. our staff is amazing and I am close with admin so I'm not nervous about telling them. What's there to be afraid of? They'll just understand you a little more and be aware of what's happening in your life... which is pretty dang exciting! :)

I told my principal already. She was making decisions for next year last week and I felt sort of obligated. I team teach in 4th grade and do the reading and writing. So, I offered to go self contained for a year since I'll be leaving in November. This way I'm only affecting one group of kiddos rather than 2. I also reassured her that I'd be well planned and would find a great sub!

I've told one coworker who is also best friend. I've told the secretary since I had to get a day off for an appointment. I plan on telling admin and team after first appointment when I'll be 8 weeks.

Don't be nervous. I am an elementary principal and all of my teachers typically share their special news at the end of their first trimester. Unless they are high risk and going to be absent a lot and then they usually tel me immediately.

Not a teacher but an elementary school counselor. I got hired at my school last May when I was 8 weeks along and I didn't want to bring it up at the interview, so I had to tell my admin when the school year started and I was about 22 weeks. My principal was cool about it, he said "don't worry about it, it happens all the time, we'll figure it out."

I am nervous though because I just fell pregnant again so it'll pretty much be an exact repeat of last year (although I'm hoping for a longer maternity leave now that I've worked there long enough to qualify for FMLA). I've told two of my team members but I haven't told admin yet. I probably will announce at our staff meeting the day after school lets out.

I'm a teacher as well and had to tell a number of key people in my building due to the classroom I teach. I'm a special ed teacher and I teach a self-contained behavioral class. My students tend to get very violent and aggressive so hence the reason for telling some people right away. 😕

I told two of my coworkers right away, since they are in the room next door and I was worried about getting sick. This is my 5th year teaching and the second year at this school. I will tell one other coworker after my next appointment when I hear the heartbeat. Then my plan is to wait until 12 weeks, after we tell SO's family. I will tell my female AP first, who I'm really close to and ask her who to tell first my supervising AP or my principal and then I will go from there. I was at a school before where the principal was very rude and not supportive at all when teachers were pregnant. There I would have waited until I show and there was no other way then to tell.

Hi!! I've been teaching for 8 years and 5 at my current school. I'm gonna tell my principal first. Trying to wait until weeks 10-12 (I'm 6 weeks today). Two of my grade level coworkers know (bc they cover for me so I can pee) and the rest im thinking of bringing in sweets to the break room and telling them at that time. I work with the most supportive group of people so I'm looking forward to telling them. We always have really nice baby showers for anyone on our campus that gets pregnant and I can't believe it's finally going to be me!!

I told my admin at 6 weeks because it was beginning to affect me at work. I was more tired, headaches, and didn't want her thinking I wasn't taking care of myself (or just being lazy). She was excited for me and since my school district is already talking about next year (who is teaching what, how many classes, etc) I think she appreciated knowing early. I teach very specific classes that are hard to find substitutes to fill.

Bc we've been doing fertility treatments and any pregnancy I have is high-risk, I tell my principal in private so he knows why I'm taking so many half days off for appointments. My first pregnancy, we announced to everyone at 13 weeks, but I mc at 20 weeks. This time around, no one but my principal will know until we return from summer break when I'm 6 months. I won't be able to hide it at that point anyway, lol.
