LBGT 101: How to tell if someone is an ally
So, you're thinking of coming out to someone, but not sure if they'll be friendly and understanding?
Here's a few good ways to test the waters:
- Ask: have you heard the latest Indigo Girls CD?
- Ask what they think about gender-neutral bathrooms.
- Look out for rainbow flags in shop windows, teachers' doorways, or other public places. A sign that says "This is a safe space for LGBTQ students and allies" is a sure-fire way to know that you're talking to someone awesome.
