breech baby c section didn't go as planned

Chelsie

I am a first time mom, and was team green. Our baby had been breech for over a month, so at our 38 week appointment our dr scheduled us for a c section on 39+4. I some how knew I wouldn't make it to that date. At 39 weeks exactly I was in the shower and I thought i felt my water leaking. So I turned the shower head off and stood there for a moment waiting for that same sensation. I even pushed a little hoping to work out a gush to know for sure. But nothing happened, so I thought it was all in my head. I finished my shower and kept feeling the sensation but chalked it up to the water running across my body. I got out of the shower and as i stepped onto the white shower mat I felt a trickle. My water leaked and hit the shower mat, it wasn't until then that I finally realized my water had broke. I called my husband, told him I wasn't joking and that I was in labor now. He speed home, and on the way home got pulled over by a cop for speeding.... how cliche, right?! About 15 mins after my water broke I started getting contractions. When we got to the hospital they put us in a room, but it took some time for them to finally test me to see if I was in labor and if my water had truely broke. Test was positive for amniotic fluid so we were admitted. My dr wasn't on call, but was going to come in to deliver our baby anyway. But that meant waiting 5.5 hours until he could come in for our emergency c section. During the meantime while we waited my contractions were getting stronger. I wasn't sure how far into my labor I had gotten since they werent checking me. Eventually i was taken into the surgery room and given the spinal. Once I was laying down I realized my left side was not getting numb like my right side. They tilted the table to see if they could get the injection to shift to the left. They began prepping me for surgery, and I could feel a lot of sensation still on my left side. I asked them if they could do anything and they said they could put me completely under. That wasn't and option for me. So they began the procedure and if needed they could put me under if I wasn't tolerating the pain. I could feel them cutting but not 100%. I was a very odd feeling, it felt like they were pulling my organs out. Once they got baby out I asked for something for the pain, and then something for the nausea. The dr picked baby up to announce the gender and as they said " it's a boy" our son began to pee. Haha. The rest of the procedure was a blur due to the pain medication. I just remember trying to focus on the baby crying and my husband talking but it was so hard because the surgery was so distracting. I was still pretty drugged in the recovery room. But we would do it all over again for our little boy. 6lbs 15oz 20 inches long. Baby James
