Photographer present at the birth?

Question

Hey all,
So this will be my first and only child (due to fertility problems and having hyperemesis) and I really feel like I want a photographer just in the corner of the room taking some nice natural birthing photos of me giving birth. (I would like a water birth)

My husband is unsure and I don't know if the hospital will allow it yet anyway.
But I'm really feeling it, no doubt my husband will faint (he has to lay down when I get a blood test 😂) so if I don't have a photographer I won't get any photos.

And I'd love to see it first come out and my labour faves and just our natural reactions so such a hard and wonderful experience.

Do you think that it's strange?
Would you have one? 
Have you had one? If so could I see some photos please.

As a photographer I have done birth photography. It is an amazing experience for the family to go back and look through the hours of waiting, pushing, supporting, and celebrating. I highly recommend you do. A good birth photographer is discreet and considerate. There are also doulas who do birth photography as well.

I personally am a hugely private person so I would be uncomfortable having a photographer there, but I don't see anything wrong with you having one if you want to preserve the moment! This is a huge, life changing monet, arguably the biggest of your life, you have every right to make it as perfect as you want it to be!

I definitely think you should get one. I wish I had one when I gave birth to my daughter even though I was screamingly daughter def looked like a mess the entire time. I think it captures real moments of how much work you put in to have that baby to welcome baby to the world. Birth is such an amazing experience, I definitely say look into getting a photographer. I don't think you would regret it! Congrats!

I personally wouldn't want one there but if you do then I then I think you should go for it. Maybe talk to your husband about why you want it, what kind of photos you want, and what you plan to do with the photos to try and allay some of his fears.
