Birth Story

Al
My baby is now 8 days old, feel like it's time to write up this crazy birth story. Little bit long.
Labor started early Morning March 17th with contractions about 6 minutes apart so I figured I had some time to do a few things! Went with a friend to get a manicure and wander around a couple of stores. (why not!)
After I got back home the had picked a bit around 2pm to 3-4 minutes apart, so I got on my yoga ball and started some deep breathing. Didn't want to go to the hospital too early. Around 6pm is when I decided to go to the hospital with contractions about 2 minutes apart. I get there get checked in i.v. started and cervix checked and I'm only 2cm!! So she stretched my cervix to 3.5 cm and broke my water.
So this is about 8pm now, and contractions got real!  So I decided to get a shot of stadol (I should also mention I was attempting to go epidural free) and my husband was a wonderful comfort and coach. Things escalated super fast after this, next check I was 5cm and ultimately decided to ask for the epidural. While waiting for the epidural pain kept increasing and it became harder to breathe through the pain. So the nurse decides to check me one more time and I'm complete and ready to start pushing!! So from checking in at 6:50 to 10:45 I go from 2 cm to ready to go, and unfortunately never got the epidural. I'm not gonna lie the pain was intense, deep breathing helped me and pushing felt so much better.
Once I start pushing things felt like things slowed way down. He was moving down but very slowly, after 4 hours of pushing they realized that he was stuck. We decided to do a c-section. They slowed my contractions down, the anesthesiology came in and got my spinal block in and at 3:05am Ellis Robert came into the world!! 7lbs 10oz 20.75 inches long.
Turns out I have a misshapen sacrum that he couldn't get past! So I won't be able to have a vaginal delivery if I have another baby.
Even though I didn't get the birth I wanted, I got the precious healthy baby I dreamed of. Our bodies can do some amazing things and endure some serious pain!
