ALL THE FEELS: Talking with your boo

Ev

You know those arguments. You're feeling pissy, and you end up yelling at bae. Bae's hungry and gets snappy with you. Then the whole thing spirals into a nothing-argument that's a serious waste of everybody's time.

Hey, feelings are real, but talking about them in a way that's helpful requires us to first stop and—as mom always said—count to ten.

For healthy communication, remember that "I" statements are better than "you" statements, and it's always more helpful to be specific rather than general (bae isn't a mind reader, and they can't change what's bugging you if they don't know what that is!). So rather than saying "you ruined my day," try something like "I felt frustrated when you forgot to pick up my dry cleaning again."

Another piece of advice from your mom that eve totally agrees with: Never try to have a deep couple conversation on an empty stomach.
