breastfeeding question?

So my mom is trying to tell me I have to breast feed if I want my uterus to shrink back to it's normal size. Is this true? She's super against formula and says I won't lose any of the baby weight I gained from the pregnancy. I'm super curious if she's right. Btw my child is exactly a month old and I just stopped breastfeed yesterday and started formula a couple days ago. So idk if my mom is just telling me this cause she doesn't support formula feeding or what... I would really like to know if these are true?

That's partially true. It does contract your uterus, but I formula fed my first child and I lost all the weight. It just depends on your body. I would do what you think is best for you and baby.

Your uterus will shrink back to its normal size, breastfeeding or not. And if it isn't shrinking fast enough at the hospital, they will give you pitocin to help it. I didn't realize that pitocin was used after labor. I got one bag of pitocin during labor and it took 3 bags after labor to stop my hemorrhaging. I have bottle fed exclusively and also nursed exclusively with different babies. Both times my utuerus went back to the normal size

Your uterus will return to its prepregnancy size whether you formula or breastfeed/ makes no difference. I'm sorry your mom isn't more supportive of your decision to formula feed. I've done both as well and what matters most is that baby is healthy and fed.

I had a c section and they massaged my uterus to help it shrink and I've been pumping and I could feel the contracting of it shrinking down

She's not wrong, but she's not totally right, either. You're uterus shrinks back super fast while breastfeeding because breastfeeding causes little contractions. It will, however, shrink back on its own.

She isn't wrong but she isn't totally right either. Breastfeeding helps your uterus contract and shrink faster but it's going to shrink regardless. As for weight loss, breastfeeding help a lot but eating right and exercising does as well.

Breastfeeding helps it go back to normal size quicker, but it will shrink back no matter what eventually. Yes you burn calories while nursing too, but either way if you eat healthy and work out you will lose the weight.
