Could be a pillar cyst. You have to have it removed by a dermatologist.

Alopecia areata usually is stress related. But could also be immune. You definitely want to see a dermatologist to confirm. I usually tell my guests to think back 6 months ago. It takes about that much time for your body to have gone through high stress or traumatic experience to effect the hair. Sometimes it can happen in multiple spots jist depends on the amount of stress you were under. It does grow back and the dr always gives a topical cream to help grow it back.

Hair Follicles can get infections like anything else on the body. Alopecia is caused by many different factors, could be stress, immune related, too much tension in that area. I'd go to a dermatologist to be properly diagnosed.

If it's raised then it could be a cyst, if it's just a bald spot then it could be alopecia.
