Were u taken to see an OBGYN when younger?

Question

Growing up, did a parent ever take you to an OBGYN for check ups? Sexually active or not.. everyone needs check ups...

I personally think it's a very American thing to get check ups at the OBGYN. Here in the U.K. You go and see your general doctor for anything, then you will be referred if needed.

"Sexually active or not, everyone needs checkups" isn't actually accurate. There's really no need to see a gynecologist or midwife until you decide to get on birth control, become sexually active, or are having issues like yeast infections or BV. While paps are a great preventative measure, they're not recommended until you're 21 unless you request them. And even then, if you're not at risk for cervical cancer, they may still not even be necessary for regular check ups. I didn't go to a midwife until I was ready to go on birth control. And if I weren't planning on getting pregnant in the next 1-2 years, I wouldn't go again unless I was having an issue.

I was about 11 or 12 and not sexually active. I had the what I now know are the tell tale signs of a yeast infection. I was scratching and dealing with discharge for weeks. It had gotten so bad that the infection spread to my skin and I had to be treated vaginally and topically. That was the first time I went to the OBGYN. I didn't even know what it was. I wish my mom explained if to me before I needed to see one.

I went when I was about 15. I have PCOS so I was put on bc pill to regulate  my symptoms. I had to go back every year to renew my prescription. If I hadn't had these issues I don't think I would have gone until I became sexually active (23yo). Even now I don't go every year or every other year. I'm a terrible patient, I know.

My regular doctor is also an obgyn... I went from my pediatrician to her. I started having paps done when I started having sex (at 16).... I used to get them yearly but they've changed how they do them now and as long as I'm not having any issues, I get one every 2 years.

In Australia, pelvic examinations and pap smears aren't standard nor  advised until you become sexually active. Then you go every two years for a pap. Although I believe from recent news I read that, due to medical advancements, pap smears will become less often very soon.
 
Another less known fact is it's a good time to double up and get tested for chlamydia - the often symptomless sti - while they're 'in the area'; it's an sti that can leave you infertile.
 
Also, at least here, you can pay a bit extra for a 'thinprep' which is a more comprehensive/ accurate examination of the cell sample when testing for cervical cancer.

I dont see an OBGYN. Im 24 and i see my GP for my birth control and my pap smears. Only time i saw an OBGYN was when i wanted to become sterile.

My mom took me when she wanted me on birth control but they don't really do checkups. Most OBGYNs don't do Pap smears on people under 21 unless there's a special reason to

I went and saw one once I got to college before getting sexually active with strangers, and continued to go every three months for regular checkups
