how does your doctor/midwife check your fundal height?

My app said mine would be checking it soon... how do they do that? And also- what went on at your 16 week visit? Is it like the 12 week where it's just listening with the Doppler and checking vitals and weight?

Yes. Fundal height is checked with a measuring tape. It's not invasive.

With my other pregnancies they did the tape measurements, but with this one they never measured mine, I'm 27w 5d. They just do biweekly ultrasounds.

My office didn't do fundal height until 28 weeks but they measure your belly with a tape measure. Also 16 week appt should just be Doppler hb and see your doc

Fundal height is measured from the pubic bone to top of the uterus.  My aunt is a midwife and she showed me how to do it myself (really easy), it's quite interesting how it grows slightly every month. I don't think they started measuring mine until 20 weeks, prior to that it was checking his heartbeat on the Doppler.

When they check mine, they find the top of my uterus with their hand and use a tape measure to measure.

I don't really remember my 16 weeks appointment. I feel like their just checked vitals and asked how I was feeling.

I had a 15 week visit (rather than 16), and all they were doing was checking the height of my uterus and trying to find the heartbeat on the doppler. With my anterior placenta, they couldn't find baby's 
heartbeat and I ended up with an ultrasound that appointment and found out she was a girl!
