Still cramping with IUD

Kelsey

Hey there ladies, back in February of this year I got my first IUD. I'm 19 and have never been pregnant before. I got this form of birth control because I don't want children, at least not within the next 3 years, and I've also heard that IUD's can stop cramps. Not for me though. The past two periods I've had (March and April) have been the worst cramps I've felt in years (I was using NuvaRing before I got Skyla). Should I go to my doctor? I'm only hesitant to because I've heard that IUD's take time for your body to get used to them and I want to give my body a chance to feel the cramp-free period everyone talks about. Please help it's 4 am and I have a test at 6:30 am. No sleep in sight. 😅 Thanks in advance!

Update: I've just read that stomach cramps are common, and although less frequent, period pains are a side effect as well. Could it be because I've never been pregnant before? My doctor said IUD's were mostly for women who've been pregnant, and Skyla is for women who haven't.
