DEPO SHOT EXPERIENCES???

Question

Thinking of trying the depo shot. Uterus rejected the IUD and I've tried the pill a few times but there have been times when I've forgotten it at home and was out and I hate that uncertainty. Don't want anything permanent like the implant, depo seems like I can get the shot and forget about it for a bit. Can someone tell me their experiences with it?

Great experience, leveled out hormones, never gotten pregnant, and regularly get my period every 3 months. Lessened cramps TREMENDOUSLY. Iv been on it for 5 years. 👍🏻

Horrible experience. Always heavy periods, mood swings, massive weight gain, headaches, cramps. It made me lose my libido lol i stopped it for two years then got on the implant and really no bad side effects so far

So far it's working amazing for me. I gained 15 pounds over the span of nine months, but I have no cramps anymore and my period is almost gone.

I had the same consideration for the depo. My doctor said since it has a lot of hormones it could cause a lot of mixed side affects. My friends who have taken it didn't have good experiences. My body rejected he IUD too and my doctor actually recommended the implant in the arm since it is basically the same thing as a mirena IUD with hormone distribution.

I didn't want anything permanent either(had my nexplanon removed earlier this year) I'm horrible with remembering pills and even though I was VERY against IUDs because of the horror stories I've heard after weighing out my options I decided it would be what was best for me personally. I went horomone free with the Paragard. It last up to 10 years, but you can have it removed at anytime and can immediately try getting pregnant. I like that I no longer have extra hormones making me even more crazy and that my period will be regular after a couple of months. I definitely talked with my gyno about it and she and I thought I was best. I'm 20 now and it's due out when I'm 30. Besides doing monthly checks to make sure it's still in place(I've been freaked out and checking it more often) because I'm terrified and have a foreign object in my bun oven. It wasn't an easy decision to make, but all the girls I work with have had positive experiences. So I felt like I would be okay! It's completely up to you and what you feel like would fit your lifestyle! Good luck!

I didn't really care for the shot and only used it for 9 months. Definitely had some of the worst periods of my life with it.

I had an AWFUL experience. I had a constant brown discharge that in all honesty looked like poop. It was a major turn off in bed. I also got bad acne with the shot. But I think the discharge was the worst. I spent so much money on panty liners and tampons because it literally never stopped. It was disgusting and smelt awful. I was also very very moody. I wouldn't recommend the shot to anyone. It can also harm your chances of having kids in the future which is very important to me

I didn't have a good experience. I was bleeding every single day after my second shot. I has go switch to the pill and stop getting the shot to make the bleeding stop.

the shot is convenient you only get the shot every 3 months the only bad thing is that you will only get your period every 3 months and when u do get it, it lasts a whole month. At least in my experience, it also maintained my weight. Some people experience weight gain or lose weight. Once I got off depo, I lost about 20 pounds.. My period became regular but its been 5 years and I can't get pregnant.. Everyone is different
