How to discipline a one year old?

When it comes to parenting, there's no right or wrong because everyone is different. But what works for you when you are trying to discipline your one year old?

I don't think there's really anyway to discipline a 1 year old just yet. I just take things away and say no but if she has a fit and stomps her feet whining I just ignore it. Not much you can do until they remember the things you say no to. My daughter is only 13 months tho, I know some 15 month olds that understand a lot. So far with my girl she sometimes takes my frustration or discipline as a game so it's just repeating no for me! I can't wait till she understand right from wrong, it would make things so much easier !

It certainly depends on the child and the action.

For me and my son...

If it's dangerous I try to distract and give him another option of play. I tought him about getting his hand popped. Nowww I tell him not to do the action. if he still goes for it..."what did mommy say?" if he still tries it I count down out loud from 5. That works 90%. He laughes and runs away or he will look at it and say "no". (Other 10% he gets a hand pop and discussion after the countdown)

If he is having a sleepy fit I gauge how serious it is. Mainly I put him in his bed and let him work it out, but if it's out of character and I know he's going through a stressful separation anxiety phase, I give him some TLC and a bottle. But normally he can be put down awake and calmly go to sleep.

However! We ALWAYS have eye contact discussions if he is "misbehaving". My son is super alert and communicates very well  through yes, no, his version of talking and his tone/body language.

For stuff like throwing things in the toilet... I wash his hands and blame myself for leaving the door open. These are still curious playful exploring babies.😂🤷🏾‍♀️

I say no and if she keeps doing whatever it is, I take away or take her away. She gets pretty pissed but whatever, she has to learn these hard life lessons lol.

She seems to understand Stop also, especially when t comes to her playing in my face or pulling my hair or kicking me (I'm still breastfeeding). She gets upset when I tell her to stop, but she stops.

I think the key is distraction. If they're upset because you took something away get them to focus on something else.

I use Janet lansburys methods from her book no bad kids. In general it's a slower method, but it does work. There's just kind of a reset every time they start testing limits again.

It starts with communicating directly without constantly referring to yourself as mom. So, "I don't like it when you do that." 
Especially instead of constantly saying no, which I feel gets tired for kids.

If my son hit me I would say, "I don't like it when you hit." And then I would block the hits if I could see it coming and say, "I can see that you're having a hard time right now, but I'm not going to let you hit me."

I don't always succeed. I've spanked my son here and there, but it seems just to teach him that it's okay to hit. That was more when he passed 18 months... but still didn't work.
