Is texting other girls while in a relationship cheating?

Even while we're together. One time I was in bed sleeping and he stayed up till 4am on his phone without me knowing.

He keeps it very secretive and hides it from me. When I ask he only tells me what I want to ear until I confront him that I know the truth which then his story changes. I love him to death but ever since this has happened I've lost trust in him and our relationship has majorly changed. I've been told it's cheating before, but not sure and wanted to get more opinions. He's told me that he was going to keep me informed with their conversations but never did. I don't care if he has female friends but he keeps adding girls and hiding them behind my back, which makes me feel terrible.

I don't think it's cheating because I really only consider having sexual contact to be cheating. Despite that, if he's flirting with or trying to flirt with other women, especially in a secretive manner - that is extremely inappropriate and disrespectful.

A behavior doesn't have to be "cheating" to be bad. Something like this can be just as bad for the health of a relationship as cheating, because it destroys the trust between you two.

If that trust isn't there, then you have a decision to make.

It depends on what he's texting about. And just because it was at night doesn't make it secretive. Just because you're alseep doesn't mean he's hiding it. It means he's awake and you're asleep. It's not cheating and they're just talking. If he's flirting that's a different story.

That time in the morning is totally disrespectful. Being sectretive is very sketchy. If he honestly doesn't have any problem with you knowing. Then ask to go through his phone and just look for yourself.
