If you have a completly normal pregnancy with 0 complications and you have had a child before then it would be okay, still risky though.  You can always go to a birthing center which is a good midway point between home birth and hospital birth if you want more control of your birthing experience

I just birthed my third and final child at home. I'm 5'0 and normally 125lbs.. my son was 10.7 lbs at birth on Saturday. It was the most empowering experience of my life. I felt more comfortable and safe at home than with my other two births. I birthed my big baby boy and not one tear or stitch needed. It's been six days and I'm finished bleeding. I would definitely do it again. As long as you are low risk and a midwife sees it a good fit, it is absolutely safe to deliver at home.

A home birth is pretty safe. A midwife won't allow you to do one if you are high risk or have other risk factors. They will "screen you out" and recommend you go to a hospital.

A home birth is totally different from a birth that isn't attended by a health practitioner. Those are not very safe.

I want to do it one day! Unfortunately in NC the laws about midwifery make it difficult to have a home birth. I'm going to a birth center for now.
