Why do you ask for refunds?

Why do you ask for refunds? I recently asked for one, for a small amount of money (under £100) and it's taken me months. I have no issue with the people and love what they do, but they lied again and again about the service they promised to provide (consultation). It's gotten to the point where I don't care about the issue, or the lies, I just want an apology and resolution. They refused and kept stepping around the problem offering me a consultation with some random person, not the person I requested. I just said that I expected a refund and apology since I obviously wasn't going to get what I paid for. They lied about issuing the refund twice. I'm so done.

I personally only ask for refunds if the company has outright lied or made a huge mistake on their part.

I know people who will order something and then send it back, asking for a refund simply because they want the money back to buy something else.

Why do you ask for refunds? To make the company aware of issues, because of principles (like them outright lying) or because of money?
