painful nipples!!!?

My baby is 1 week and 3 days old. He had a week long NICU visit for IV antibiotics after birth. We breastfeed while in the hospital and did okay. The last couple days while home my nipples have started to feel like they are on fire. When baby latches it's terribly painful, but the feeding is okay. When he's not on the boob they hurt and anything that touches them makes it worse. Should we re-evaluate our latch (pretty sure we are fine; looks like what they helped me with in the hospital), is something else going on, or is this normal!? I've been using nipple cream but it ain't cutting it!

Totally feel ur pain! It was like this for all 3 babies. It may be worth checking the latch of the baby, that was my problem with the first baby. By the second baby I understood better so I had a better time but still painful in the beginning. Third baby i got the latch perfect so I thot it wud be so much better but OMG the pain!!! For the first 2 weeks or so I would swear like a sailor everytime she latched, I literally gritted my teeth and held my breath! I used the breast feeding cream and honestly those don't help much coz before u know it u have to feed again. I think basically it's somewhat normal coz it's new for ur body to have to go thru that, but I would say if it stays like that after the 2 or 3 weeks then it's def worth getting it checked. Dunno if ur pumping but it might be a good idea to pump for a couple of the feeds to give urself that break and a little time for breasts to heal? Really hope u feel better coz I know just how awful it is!
