It depends on the books and movies. If you're watching vaxxed and reading the Bible, you aren't gaining any knowledge. Aside from learning about the Bible itself and experiencing a great example of a non-creditable source.

Books are proven to increase aptitude. But again children need someone who cares enough to read with them. There in lies the problem.

Books expand vocabulary and grammar. They also force you to use your imagination and engage different parts of your brain. I always got straight A's in school, and I believe a big part of that stems from my propensity to read whenever I could at a young age.

I voted books but from experience I think experience makes a person intelligent. Your ability to learn from mistakes, failures, accomplishments, and those around you. I would also throw listening in among those things.

Books. If only I was into the type of books my husband was (and retained information better), I might be smart like he is.

Reading makes you use your imagination. You'll acquire a wider vocabulary. There is more character development in a book than in a movie.

You make yourself intelligent. You can learn from both books and movies so both are good for you if its educational. There are different kinds of smarts as well. Its up to you as person to be educated. School only does so much if you want to further yourself you do the work yourself. That may mean furthering your education through college or just trade school or just on your own.

Video games.  There are so many types out in the world that you can get cheaply, on PCs "Google: Steam", DL program, wait for Summer & Winter sales...I loved the Jumpstart games when they first came out in the 90's, Sam's club used to sell bulk CD-rom games and I remember one introduced me to different world instruments, history/science factoids, how to navigate a maze-puzzle...my hand-eye coordination (which I use for sports/exercise), paying attention to details, and navigational skills have all improved due to the various video games I've played over the years.
