relocating homeless?

One of the towns near me has built into their budget funds to purchase bus tickets for homeless people so they can go be homeless somewhere else. When I was told about this, my response was wtf?!?! That's so jacked!! But I have been told this a thing in other places too. Have you ever heard of this? Do you think it's ok/horrible/in between?

They should be using that money to help them find temporary places to live, or food, or a haircut and new clothing so they can find a decent job.

I think it's awful. It doesn't solve anything. They should put that money into programs that actually address the root causes of homeless instead of just displacing people.

An agency l interned for, serving homeless kids/adults (12-21), had funds for bus tickets but this was only used to confirm the person had a safe place to stay (long-term) in whatever city or state they requested to go to. It has to be verified that the person (their friend or relative) is okay with them staying. We get confirmation, and then safety plan to make sure this is the best decision for the person's safety and well-being. It's scary to have someone leave the city where they can get resources to go somewhere they're unfamilar with. If they change their mind or need to come back, they can be given a bus ticket to come back. Where I'm from we have many organizations and shelters to help the homeless community, except for childless/non abused single women, their options for shelters are slim to none, sadly.

Many homeless people are sent to Hawaii... I lived there for a bit and was completely floored by the amount of homeless people. I worked at the zoo and getting there early in the morning, it wasn't unusual to see 20-30 homeless people lining the sidewalk outside of the zoo still sleeping before the authorities made them move. I guess the idea was that they move them to somewhere like Hawaii where they don't have to worry about the weather? (If someone knows the actual reason, please explain... I never researched it) Meth seems to be a big issue in Hawaii and the majority of the homeless that I saw looked like they were addicted to meth. So I can't say it was a good idea... it just relocates the problem and causes these people to endanger their lives (and others) in different ways... I don't have an appropriate solution, but we definitely need one. It's heartbreaking.

I've heard of building housing for the homeless in a separate area or letting them live in abandoned buildings, but shipping them off to another street in another city is just... Wtf?

I knew someone who worked for AMR LA county and he said all counties in socal will call the ambulance and use them to transport homeless people to other cities.

My question is, if they can use the money and resources to send them somewhere else why not build a bunker for them, and only provide a place to live if they're actively trying to find work and/or maintain the facility they're living in? I

The city next to mine did this. The city was founded by the rich people of ours who didn't want to be a part of our "poor" town.
Years ago they bussed out all the homeless people in their area to our downtown. Leaving us more people than our shelters can accommodate and further harming the economy of our downtown 😥
I saw an article about a town that has a program that set an area up to build tiny homes and rent them out to those in need until they can get back on their feet. They also help find them jobs so they can find a permanent home. I wish more areas did things like this to help, rather than simply relocating those in need to different streets.
