Okay first time moms and others do you think this is an necessary item? I've loved them when I worked with kids in the past! Tia!

We didn't think it was. We throw the dirty ones in a grocery bag and then in a sealed trash bin in our garage. No smell that way. And one less item to worry about buying.

We have an Ubbi diaper pail.  It is amazing.  You might spend up to 2x upfront ($80) but the money you save using regular trash bags over the diaper genie refill will be more than the difference in the initial purchase.  We have spent 4.99 on hefty 40ish count lavender trash bags.  We change it twice a week so one box lasts about 20+ weeks which is way longer than a 2 pack of the genie refill which will hold up to 800 diapers.  And it literally never smells

Yes! It helps keep the stink contained! Many people don't care for them bc the refills can be pricey. I have had mine for 3 years!! I keep it clean by sanitizing every month and keeping dryer sheets in the bottom.

Yes yes yes. Once their poop starts to smell bad, you'll definitely want it. The only down fall is continuously buying the refills.

I don't think it's a necessity. 
We have one and it's very convenient and looks very chic in her nursery, but it's not something I feel like we need to have. It works well and contains the diaper stink, but a trash can would work just as well. 
The only reason we have one is because a family member gifted us one at our shower.

Bought a safety 1st diaper pail off amazon. It was less than $20 and uses regular garbage bags. We also put them in plastic baggies so not really any odor. Change the bag once or twice a week.

With my first I was given one when she was around 6 months. Going from not having it, to having one was a game changer to me, for sure. I noticed a huge difference in my kitchen smelling better. I kept it in the living room and it was great. Since then it's a must have for me. I bought one this time months ago and will be using it in the bedroom. We have dogs that eat the garbage and our bedroom is upstairs,  and going to the trash cans outside isn't convenient to begin with. So those refill prices are worth it to me. 
However,  I saw a hack somewhere, where you can rig it so trash bags work in it. I'll have to YouTube or Google it because this was so long ago, but I'll be trying to do that. It's a personal preference thing. For some, it's just not something they need. For me I can't do without it.

Great investment in my opinion. Bought mine unopened and unused for $5 off offer up (selling and buying app) &I they threw in a refill, which lasted a little over a month, probably would've been more but my son pees a lot. It never smells, the refills aren't expensive, & it's a life saver in the middle of the night when he poops. Don't have to put it in a separate bag & take it downstairs or outside.

Has helped us out a lot! Can't stand when people use Walmart bags and throw it in my trash can! I have kicked my mother in law out for that, I can still always smell it and just feel like it's gross if the dog was to get into it or if you had an animal or older child, our dog never goes up to our diaper gene :) she can't even smell it it seems like with the filter in it that gets rid of the smell! Love it so much and so easy to use,

Definitely. And we were lucky enough to be gifted enough refills at our shower to get through at least a year so we're good.
