pain reliever during pregnancy?

can someone please tell me if i can take a pain reliever while pregnant i read that i can and then i read things that said i can't i have a really bad tooth ache i have to go to the dentist in 2 weeks for it but the pain is literally crucial i need help with this please ! can i take pain reliever and which kind can i take?
