Lotion as lubricant?

I feel like this is a stupid question, but can you use hand lotion as a lubricant during sex? I feel like it wouldn't be good for girls because it could maybe cause yeast infections and other stuff. Idk. I'm still young and don't know anything. But yeah, can you use lotion? Are there certain types you should and shouldn't use? Or can you just not use it at all?!
