How much tummy time?

My baby is five weeks old and we haven't started putting him down on his tummy yet (like on a baby gym or so). He's not looking at things yet and I figured to put him on his tummy on a blanket or so would only make him mad. We are however letting him spend a lot of his time on our chests, so he's really strong. I'm still worried we're not giving him enough. How much tummy time does your baby get and how old are they? When did you start with tummy time?

We didn't do tummy time. My daughter was either on my chest or in a baby carrier. It works the same muscles and then some.

My LO is 4 weeks and I started doing tummy time on her play mat a week ago but she only lasts a few minutes. I found doing it on her changing table easier and move enjoyable for her. She loves laying there already so now after a diaper change I roll her over on her tummy for a few minutes. Eventually we will get back to trying it on the mat.

When my baby girl was 5 weeks we started giving her tummy time immediately. Started of with 5 minutes because we didn't want to push her too much. Slowly slowly we put her down for longer and she started to love it.

We started tummy time the first day we was home from the hospital. But my doc says on your chest totally counts! My friends doc said the same thing. I say do as often as possible as longs as baby will tolerate it.

We started tummy time once umbilical cord fell off and tummy was healed. We started tummy time on top of us. Laying back on couch, reclined on couch and baby on tummy. He was raising his head to look at us consistently at a couple weeks old.

I was told to start tummy time when my baby lost her umbilical cord, so that's what I did... we do it a couple times per day for 5-10 minute, at a time that she's in a good mood like after a nap and meal. I lay down beside her so she can see me and I offer encouragement and smiles, and she normally is happy for a while! When she starts getting mad, we move on to do something else.

Tummy to tummy on your chest is tummy time when they're that young. The recommendation is an hour a day, but I don't know anyone who actually does that much in a day. At least a few minutes a couple times a day is fine.
