Should School Shootings Be Publicized More?

I just watched I'm Not Ashamed which was the story of Rachel Joy Scott who was the first victim of the Columbine shooting. Extremely sad movie. Could shedding more light on this massacre possibly have prevented the school shootings that have happened after Columbine? I remember it being in the news but not as much as it should have been. What will it take for these meaningless shootings to stop??? To everybody not familiar with her story, I surely recommend it.

I don't care about Rachael scotts story, personally I feel her family used her death to talk about their religion. I've also read that Rachel didn't even say anything when she died although it was obvious that she was killed for being religious while her atheist boyfriend sitting beside her was just left paralyzed.  I have read so much about colimbine and still do because it intrigues me. I was 4-5 when it happened so I don't remember it at all. 
If you read about Dylan and Eric they were extremely troubled teens. 
They weren't copying someone else, Eric had fucked up distorted/racist views and was obsessed with Hitler and wanted to dominate and kill and Dylan was extremely depressed/suicidal and easily influenced. I believe if Dylan had never met Eric he would probably still be here today. 
The focas needs to be aimed at our teens and our schools. Pay attention to your kids, be on the look out for signs of mental illness. End bullying. 
Maybe end the easy access to fucking guns that might help too. Those boys bought their guns at a gunshow with the help of a friend who was 18. Sandy hook was on a whole new level and I can't with that. It shouldn't be that easy to get a gun.

It was ALL over the news for months in 1999. I was a huge Buffy fan and they cancelled the airing of two episodes (including the season 3 finale) bc of the Columbine tragedy. Then there's been a million and one documentaries about it. I don't think airing more stuff would have prevented anything. Unfortunately crazies will be crazies. There's little we can actually do ☹️

Being someone that went to Columbine High School that's all you ever hear in the news. When it happened you couldn't get away from seeing it. Every year on the anniversary it's back in the news. I personally feel that some of these people just want the attention and if we didn't give it to them maybe they wouldn't do it. But these people are so messed up that you don't know what they want. With Columbine is was kids getting bullied and being the biggest shooting it was all over the news in Colorado. I'm sure it was heard all around the world cause every time I tell someone I went to Columbine the frist thing they ask is were you there during the shooting?

Columbine was way too publicized. Those boys became celebrities off of that shooting...same as the Menendez murder trial although it wasn't a school shooting. Gun violence has been glorified by the media.

Focusing on your fellow peers, mental health, and anti bullying would. And minimizing how the sam hell titties these people get their hands on the weapons. 😒

I don't think details other than the background of the shooter motives and victims should be shown.

Also I think they should only talk about a shooter once at the time of the shooting, and again at conviction. To make the shooters life story news worthy is ridiculous and only gives the shooter their 15minutes of fame.. which was most likely part of their motive in the first place.

Quite honestly I think they should make shooters be exicuted publicly my hanging then allow the victims family to play target practice with the corpse but that's just my sick twisted view of justice

I was 10 when Columbine happened and even as a child who wasn't particularly interested in the news I remember hearing about it everywhere on what seemed like an endless loop. I also remember it making me afraid to go to school and I think that can be a negative impact of these shootings being on the news endlessly. Whenever these mass shooting happen, especially ones with a high death toll, they dominate the news cycle, to the point that people report feeling desensitized to it(although I think the frequency at which they occur in the U.S. is the main reason for this desensitization). I also think having the shorter's name all over the news can negatively influence people just looking for infamy.

I'd rather see meaningful gun legislation*, better mental healthcare, school officials treating instances of bullying with their due severity. It's important to inform the public, but there's a fine line between that and being overly inundated with the horror show.

*No, I'm not talking about taking everyone's guns away so spare me.
