rock & play or swing?

FTM here, and I don't know what to put on the registry. So, I have a little house, and I don't want a ton of gadgets/baby equipment that I don't need. I have had people say that a rock and play is the best thing ever, and the same about swings. The  rock and play I'm looking at has all the features of a swing (plays music, vibrates, has a little light show, auto rocks, etc), but it doesn't actually SWING, and I know some babies prefer that. The swing just takes up so much more room and is less portable.

I really don't want both. Thoughts and advice from experienced moms are welcomed!

Thanks everyone! I think we are going to start with the rock and play and see how it goes. I can always get a swing later if I find it necessary or if the rock and play just doesn't do it for him.

My daughter would sleep hours in her swing but not so much the rock n play

I have a small house too!! With my first son we had a swing, it took up a lot of room and he HATED IT! so I got rid of it. A few of my friends just had babies within the past year and swear by the rock and play. So, I got one. He's not here yet. But I have it folded next to my side of the bed (our room is TINY) and it's not in my way!! Good luck!!

Actually, I've heard a lot more babies tend to prefer the rock n okay over the swing. It's more comforting because it makes them feel like they're in your arms

We used both. We actually have a portable swing I think it's called... graco brand. Folds up flat and doesn't take up as much room as a regular one.
