Stay at home Dad :) SAHMs n SAHDs out there?

Question

Hey all!  I'm new here and I'm a SAHD!  Loving my new role staying home with our almost 3 month
 old!  I know it's a complete role reversal, but it works great for my family.

Any other SAHM or SAHD out there?!  I wouldn't mind having a few friends to relate with that stay home with their baby or multiple kids :) 
Also, there's a lot of stigma and judging sometimes with being a SAHD... what are your opinions on this?  Do real men work? Or can a "real man" stay at home and provide for his family by raising his children and taking care of the domestic duties?  I'd love to hear all opinions...just be respectful with your opinion :)  Thanks all!

I'm a SAHM for my 13 month old little girl and we're having baby number 2 in October. I think SAHDs are awesome. People should do what works for their family. "Real men" take care of their family, whether that's working at a job or at home taking care of the house and kids. I'm glad social norms are changing.

My husband is a stay at home dad for our 1 year old. Nothing wrong with it! I think people need to get over gender stereotypes and stop being so judgmental.

It's nice knowing the baby is with her daddy while I'm away at work.

Hi Haley!  Thanks for the support!  Yea, my wife makes more and she'd rather work.  I on the other hand am loving this role!  It works best for our family, and it's going great for us :)

Not a SAHD or a dad.

Raising kids is real work.  My checkbook told me so.  It costs us roughly 20k a year to put our three kids in daycare.

Looking at it that way, you are putting at least 20k into your family's pocket a year just by staying home.  Plus the time investment with your kids will surely be worth it.

I am a stay at home mom! But i made more money than my husband he would 100% stay at home and I would work! I love that he's the "man" of the house and pays the bills and supports us but staying at home is a huge job as well! As long as our baby is taken care of and bills are paid I don't care who is working and who is at home!

I'm a work from home mom and my job lets me bring my little booger to run errands. But I'm all day every day with him while his dad is out of the house working.

Welcome!! My husband and I are both taking 6 months shared parental leave (we're in the UK). It's a fantastic bonding experience for the three of us, and we're glad we did it (at least on the good days, haha). I think a lot of men would like to stay home with their children (or even just going part time) but are afraid of career damage or disapproval from others. I think a lot more families should consider it.

My partner is a stay at home dad. I have 6 months paid maternity and we're both home with our wee son at the moment. I'm not looking forward to starting back at work in June but at least I know he's in good hands with his dad. Who cares if mum or dad get to stay at home - either can make sure the children are happy and healthy!
