Grave site

I'm sure this is an odd topic, but I am in need of some advice. My MIL passed when my husband was 19 years old and rightfully so that day every year is beyond difficult for him. We have had the conversation many times on what we would want when we die. One of his wants was to be buried by his mother so that she wasn't there alone (his father is re married & it's far away at the family lake house) but that he would also want to be buried by me as well. So as he has said that many times I went ahead and called and bought two plots next to her. So that he could be with the both of us. My question is, since he always shuts down, or gets quietly sad when she is brought up, how do I let him know? Do I "gift" it? And if so when is that appropriate or do I simply just tell him?
