is is normal for newborns to have loud/stuffy sounding breathing while they sleep?

My daughter is 9 days old and she sounds like she has fluid or something when she breathes when she's sleeping.. but I sucked her nose and didn't get anything so I'm wondering if this is common or not? I've read that it is but want to really make sure.

Yup it's ok :) the sound to worry about is a wheezing originating in their chest. Nose mouth noises are ok (whistling, snoring, clogged sounds, etc). My son is 2 months and snores like an adult lol.  Never hesitate to check with your Pediatrician for peace of mind if you need it, though! I did !

It was normal for my daughter. She was the noisiest sleeper for the first few months. I even took her in because I thought she was congested but she wasn't at all. Doctor said its just them getting used to breathing. I thought I gave birth to a monster 😂

I had the SAME EXACT ISSUE when my baby was that age. i literally stared at her bassinet an entire night because i was scared that she wasn't breathing well. I use to suction her nose and never get anything out!  Fortunately it went away. I told my sister about it and ah said "she's only been breathing for a few days. You cant expect her to be great at it." She was right. Hopefully your baby outgrows it too.

My doctor said one of the reason why is because they have tiny little nasal passages

My son does the same he's been doing that since he was born and he's 5 weeks now and no known issues with that so I think it's ok. He also sometimes does a throaty mucousy sound when he's drinking. Not sure if the same happens with your little one

A lot of newborns are loud sleepers. Just keep an eye on your baby and as long as there are no signs of distress it should be fine. However, if you're concerned bring it up to the pediatrician.
