when mine looked like that, they were irritation bumps. they happen with poor quality jewlery or pressure (ill fitting jewelry, sleeping on it.) keep up with your cleaning (soap or saline solution, nothing else), and take a visit to your piercer!

Warning: I am not a professional piercer, I just tend to ask my own piercer a lot of questions and do tons of research.

Hypertrophic scar:

I have had one of these and seen these many times. They're usually caused by IRRITATION to your piercing. Irritation can be caused by wrong size of bar, not implant grade metal, and just being bugged in general. They're VERY common, in fact most people get one. Nothing to worry about. They stay only around the piercing and don't get very big, they can also be tender to the touch (hurts when touched).

Best method to rid yourself of them is a sterile saline solution or mix your own at home with 1/4 teaspoon non iodized fine grain sea salt and 8 oz or 1 cup of water (this is what my piercer recommended to me).

Do NOT use tea tree oil, I really don't recommend it.  It's extremely harsh and drying and may help but also can irritate and delay the healing even further. So I recommend not using it or crushed aspirin paste.

Basically if your piercer doesn't recommend it: don't use it!

Keloids:

These HUGE LUMPS  are keloids. They can extend past the initial piercing area and will continually grow! YOU CANNOT TREAT THEM AND MAKE THEM GO AWAY AT HOME. If you do: it was a hypertrophic scar not a keloid. If you suspect you have one first he'd to your piercer. He/she will either agree that you have one or disagree and tell you what it is. If it is a keloid you'll need to go to a doctor for treatments like cortisone shots (I have a friend who goes for these every 8 weeks and will have to go for a long long time). Unfortunately these are most likely to happen to women, especially black women. Sorry ladies! But the one upside is keloids are actually quite uncommon!

So in summary:

If it's just a little bump it can be treated with salt/saline solution. But if it continues to grow GET CHECKED OUT.

Irritation maybe? Make sure you clean around them with uniodized salt dissolved in cooled boiled water and a qtip, same happened with my septum (twice!) And this brought it down. If it doesn't get better, or gets in anyway worse, I'd show your pierces just to be sure
