my story of induction with/without epidural.
Well last night I brought my little miricle into this world! So here goes my birth story! I arrived at the hospital at 39w3d to be induced. I got checked I at 7pm and was in my room and recieved fluids (just fluids) because I was already having light contractions on my own and was dilated to a 3cm till 2am!!! They then started me on pitocin at 2am Friday morning. This process was extremely slow and they didn't bump it up enough for me to actually feel PAINFUL contractions until 9am. I started really contracting and hurting at around 10am after they broke my water and I then requested an epidural which was not my plan (but oh well). Once I started the epidural I immediately felt no contractions and while this was nice to notbe In pain, I only progressed dilation about 1cm per 2 hours!! Around 6pm I was dilated to 7cm and my epidural had worn off on one side of my body! The nursing staff sat me straight up for gravity to help bring my baby into my birth canal faster. However this was so painful I pushed the button for more epidural. Once again my labor slowed down and by 8pm I was STILL at 7cm!!!! The second phase of epidural wore off and I had what is called a hot spot, (one area of the uterus didn't receive any epidural at all and I could feel all of my contractions in one spot.) but this time my water had been broken so long I was at risk for infection if baby boy didn't come soon or receive a c-section. They offered more pain meds as the contractions had returned with a vengeance, but I knew this could possibly not progress my labor and a c-section would be inevitable. My husband encouraged me to say no and helped me through my immense contractions! I made myself sit straight up again and suffered through the pain until about 8:30pm, then I was 9cm dilated!!!!!!! My doctor disappointed me and felt like I was being difficult by kicking and screaming and was pushing a c-section on me even after all this hard work I'd done and how close to pushing I was! I was In so much pain that I was crying out for a c-section and my husband saw how vunerable I was but believed in me enough to tell my doctor to shove it that I was not getting a c-section! What do you know, not 10 mins later I was wanting to push! I pushed just for his head for a good 30 minutes!!! Once his head was out the rest came out with a breeze! Then my baby boy was finally here, 8lbs 7 ounces and 21 inches long!! Mind you I am a 5"1 100 pound woman before birth. Everything was going perfect at first just extremely tired! They transferred me to postpartum and when I got there I just started coughing like I had horrible mucas in my throats and it was blocking my airway! I got a breathing treatment but apparently nothing seemed to be wrong but it was very scary. I believe my body was overwhelmed. I finally caught my breath layer down fed my new baby boy and went to sleep. Now that I've woken up and gotten rest I can't stop holding my little baby! Labor and birth is nothing easy but I have something no one else does and I feel like GOD himself took care of me today! That's my birth story and I recommend giveing birth the way you feel nessicary at the time! Thank you guys for being here through my pregnancy! Below is my little champ!
