Downvote button?

What is the downvote button for? It doesn't bring down the number of upvotes or report the comment so what does it do?

If it receives enough downvotes the content/question/post gets hidden from the board rooms.

I've always wondered this!!  I assumed it was just like the upvote button but instead the downvote lol

Like the other commenter said, the comment gets hidden if it receives more than enough downvoted, and is usually moved to the bottom of that post. It is sometimes also deleted by admins.
